DEALING WITH DEATH

DEALING WITH DEATH

Life was hard for early settlers.  Death visited often and many families were large, with 8-14 children, some of whom would not make it through childhood.  Disease, dangerous working conditions, unpredictable weather, food shortages, and the dangers of childbirth were some of the challenges faced by early settlers.  Many grave markers in the cemeteries demonstrate the strong faith that sustained many a grieving spouse or parent.
